| Alpha | A terrain layer that says where the ground surface is shown and where it is hidden, for example to open a hole for a cave or tunnel entrance. Paint it with the paint tools. |
| Biome | A terrain layer that sets the climate of an area: Arid, Temperate, Tundra, Arctic or Jungle. |
| Brush | The shape a terrain tool paints or sculpts with. See Brushes. |
| Content Browser | The panel that lists all of Rust's prefabs and your custom monuments. See Content browser. |
| Custom data | Extra fields that server plugin makers add to prefabs with manifest files. They show in the Inspector and are saved in the map. See Custom data. |
| Custom monument | A group of prefabs and terrain changes that you save as one .asset file and place in maps as one object. In the app it is called a Monument. See Monuments. |
| Custom topology layer | An extra topology map you make yourself, with 31 layers you name. An exported map gives them to server plugins. See Custom topology layers. |
| Detached window | A dock panel pulled out of the main window into a Windows window of its own. See The interface. |
| Dock panel | One of the panels that fill the RustEdit window, such as the Inspector. You can move, tab and close them. |
| Empty entity | An entity with nothing to see. Use it to group other objects under it. Make one with Create Empty in the Hierarchy. |
| Entity | Anything in your map that you can select: a placed prefab, a spline, a placed monument or an empty entity. Every entity has a row in the Hierarchy. |
| Export | Writing a .map file for a Rust server. does it. See Export a map. |
| Filter | A mask that limits where a terrain tool works, for example only on steep slopes. See Filters. |
| Gizmo | The arrows, rings or boxes on the selected objects that you drag to move, turn or scale them. See Selection and transform. |
| Height map | The grid of heights that makes the shape of the terrain. Terrain Resolution sets how many points it has. |
| Hierarchy | The panel that lists every entity in the map. See Hierarchy. |
| Inspector | The panel that shows the settings of the selected objects. Its panels are listed in the component reference. |
| IO | Rust's electric and logic objects, such as switches, timers, doors and turrets, and the wires between them. See IO wiring. |

| Layout | Where each dock panel sits. See Layouts. |
| License | The proof on your computer that your RustHQ account has RustEdit Plus or Pro. See Free, Plus and Pro. |
| LOD | Level of detail. Far away objects are drawn with simpler models, or not at all. The LOD setting changes these distances. |
| Loot profile | A list of what a loot container can hold, saved as an .lprof file. See Loot profiles. |
| Map file (.map) | The file a Rust server loads. RustEdit writes it with Save and Export, and can open it too. |
| Map password | A password that locks a scene and its exported map, so nobody can open them without it. See Map password. |
| Map size | The width of the square map in meters. A new map can be 1000 to 8000. Maps bigger than 6000 need the RustEdit 2 server extension on the server. |
| Monument | A large ready-made place in Rust, such as a lighthouse or a gas station. Your own monuments are called custom monuments. |
| Monument attributes | Points on a monument that Rust's map generator uses to place it and to shape the ground under it, such as terrain anchors and terrain checks. The scene view calls them procedural points. See Monument attributes. |
| Node | One block in the Terrain Graph. Nodes take inputs, do one job and give outputs. See Nodes. |
| Palette | A list of prefabs for the Prefab Brush, saved as a .palette file. See Prefab Brush. |
