Sockets

The Sockets panel shows the sockets and links of the selected prefabs, and opens the socket editor. It is always the last panel in the Inspector. It only shows while sockets are shown (the sockets button on the transform widget is on), and when a selected prefab has sockets, or when exactly one prefab is selected, so you can give it sockets. See Sockets.

You connect sockets in the scene view, not here: drag from one free socket to another. Click a socket in the scene to make it the active socket. Disconnect and Spin work on the active socket.

Rows and buttons

Row or buttonWhat it does
SocketsThe sockets of the selected prefabs.
LinksThe links of the selected prefabs. A link between two selected prefabs is counted twice, once for each prefab.
ActiveThe socket picked in the scene, its type, and whether it is linked or free. "None" when no socket is picked.
Move IndividuallyMove prefabs without their connected prefabs. Their links break when they move.
DisconnectBreaks the active socket's link, or every link of the selected prefabs when the active socket is free.
SpinTurns the active socket's side of its link by one roll step. Only when the active socket is linked.
Select ConnectedSelects every prefab joined to the selection through socket links.
Edit Sockets / Stop EditingOpens or closes the socket editor for the selected prefab. Needs exactly one selected prefab.

Socket editor

While the socket editor is open, the panel shows the editor instead. Prefab names the prefab you edit, and File names the socket file it saves to, with "(not saved)" while there are unsaved changes. The move and rotate gizmo moves the active socket.

Field or buttonWhat it does
NameThe socket's name. Links find their socket by name.
TypeSockets connect when their types allow it. The default type connects to everything.
PositionPosition in the prefab's space.
RotationRotation in the prefab's space. The socket's forward axis points out of the prefab.
Roll StepAbove 0, the socket can join at every multiple of this many degrees around its forward axis.
Add SocketAdds a socket in the middle of the prefab.
Delete SocketDeletes the active socket and its links.
SaveWrites this prefab's sockets to its socket file.
RevertReads the socket files again. Unsaved socket changes are lost.

The socket editor has no undo. Use Save and Revert.
